Follow the links below to be redirected to the UC Agricultural & Natural Resources species specific guides for handling issues with nuisance wildlife on your property. Please note, that while these guides do offer advice on trapping and euthanasia, we strongly recommend the humane and nonlethal solutions to wildlife living under your home. Wildlife plays extremely important roles in the health of our local ecosystems, often controlling the populations of pests such as mice and rats.
Excluding them humanely will not only solve your issues with lasting results, but it will keep our natural areas healthy. Remember, trapping and euthanizing an animal is likely only a temporary fix. Leaving areas open and accessible to wildlife will just make room for more wildlife to move in. Sealing off areas correctly and humanely guarantees that your issues will be solved for the long term.
If you are attempting to exclude an area of your home during baby season (April-August), there is a high likelihood that you may separate a mother from her babies during that time. Babies that are unable to follow their moms out of their den are likely to slowly starve without her care. Most wildlife species spend a short amount of time with their mother before exclusions can be done safely and correctly. Please call us for advice in determining when it may be appropriate to exclude an area that may have babies.
If you are looking to discourage wildlife from your property without physically excluding their access to areas, hazing may be a good resource for you. To learn more about hazing techniques, check out our hazing guide here.
